Belgrade Airport has joined in supporting NGO Atina’s work by placing donation boxes at the airport, giving passengers an opportunity to contribute to the support of women and girls who have survived human trafficking and various forms of violence.

An airport is a place of thousands of journeys. Some people are leaving, some are returning, some are waiting for someone, and some are starting over. Now, among all these journeys, there is also an opportunity to stop for a moment and become part of someone else’s.

Funds collected through the donation boxes will support Atina’s direct assistance programmes for women and girls, including safe accommodation, psychosocial and legal assistance, support in accessing their rights, economic empowerment, and long-term recovery and inclusion in the community.

For women who have survived human trafficking, leaving a situation of exploitation is not the end of the story. Recovery often takes time and requires continuous support, safety, and the opportunity for a woman to regain control over the decisions that shape her own life. This is why even a small contribution, when it becomes part of a wider act of solidarity, can make a meaningful difference.

We were especially moved to see that the donation boxes were already filling up. Behind every contribution is a person who, perhaps while rushing to catch a flight, still chose to stop and support someone they will probably never meet.

While on our own journey, we can help make someone else’s journey safer and easier.
