Civil society for a more accountable REM: Organizations nominated candidates for the Council

Meeting of authorized nominating organizations for the selection of REM council members held

October 21, 2025

On October 20, 2025, a meeting of authorized nominators from associations whose primary goals are the protection of children was held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. The purpose of the meeting was to agree on a joint proposal for candidates to the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM).

By majority vote, the associations proposed Professor Dušan Aleksić and Professor Dubravka Valić Nedeljković as candidates to be submitted to the National Assembly for the election procedure for REM Council members. The nominated candidates are dedicated to strengthening media freedom, increasing transparency in media operations, and promoting the public interest through effective regulation of electronic media. Their expertise and experience would make a significant contribution to the work of the REM Council.

The process will continue in accordance with the prescribed procedure, provided that no irregularities occur during the harmonization of candidates in other nominating groups. In the next phase, the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Information will conduct public interviews with all candidates, within the deadlines set by the Law on Electronic Media. Afterward, the list of candidates will be submitted to the National Assembly for the election of nine members of the REM Council.

Atina, as one of the founding members of MODS, the Network of Organizations for Children in Serbia, has wholeheartedly supported this process and takes this opportunity to thank all organizations for their dedication, cooperation, and recognition of the importance of this process in improving the media environment in Serbia.
