Presented „Guideliness on Determining the Best Interest of the Child“ on annual meeting of the Network of Ombudsmen for Children in Southeastern Europe

At the annual meeting of the Network of Ombudsmen for Children in Southeastern Europe, NGO Atina’s consultant, Aleksandra Galonja, presented “Guidelines on Determining the Best Interest of the Child” which NGO Atina in association with Save the children created within the second phase of the project Setting an agenda for Child Oriented Social Reform.

The guidelines were created in order to further improve policies and programs to support children on the move in the Republic of Serbia. The basic aim is to encourage creation of a sustainable system for organizing interventions and programs to protect children on the move in the phase of continuous collection of data significant for identification of the exact position of children in the process of their protection, their strengths and the risks they are exposed to. For this purpose, forms are created for preliminary and full assessment of the best interest of the child, according to international and regional examples, and experiences of the national system for protection of children on the move. Guidelines include specific directions for the introduction of gender perspective in the process of determining the best interest, and thus tend to establish concern about gender equality in policies for the protection of children on the move, as standard and unavoidable segment of development of national policies and practices.
