Feminist social transformation: Seeing the world from a woman's perspective is the key to change and improvement of the lives of women and girls - Club "With and for girls" from Čačak

The club "With and for Girls" became a symbol of positive changes in Čačak, encouraging all girls to join their fight for a fair society.

"We believe that understanding and seeing the world from a woman's perspective is the key to change and improvement of the lives of women and girls," says Aleksandra Kovačević, a youth activist from Čačak.

The club "With and for Girls" became the epicentre of change and unity, gathering over 20 young members of high school age. These inspiring activists are not only members of the club, but also bearers of rich activist and volunteer experience, having come through the Youth Office, the local youth organization Erudita, the school parliament, as well as other national and international projects.

Through a series of training and mentoring sessions, the girls worked on topics that are essential to their community. From sexuality education, addressing topics such as abortion rights, and menstrual poverty, to the broader context of women's reproductive health, this brave group has dedicated itself to the challenges women face. In addition, the mental health of young people, the position of the LGBTIQ+ population, the position of women entrepreneurs in Serbia, and the role of women in corporations are also among the key topics that interest them and that they plan to deal with in the future.

After the mentoring sessions, the girls did not just talk but took the necessary steps to ensure the inclusion of women in the public dialogue on the aforementioned topics. Meetings with decision-makers gave them the opportunity to initiate change in their community, affecting key issues that girls face in their daily lives. Thus, they achieved cooperation with the Medical School in Čačak, the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality, as well as with the youth organization Erudita, which represents an important step in advocating positive changes and successfully mobilizing young people.

This news was created as part of the project "Initiative of young feminist advocates in Serbia" which has been implemented by the Citizens' Association Atina with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade, in cooperation with the organization Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL).
