“We have to be solidary, women understand each other best”

In project “Local support to the most vulnerable from the refugee population” that has been implemented with the support of United Nations Population Fund, mutual support and understanding of women are the framework of the activities carried out.

“It is essential that we talk about this, it is important that we, women from other countries are familiar with our rights here, so that we can fight jointly and make space for ourselves”.

Refugee and migrant women are the ones that also remind us on a daily basis about the importance of solidarity among women, mutual support and understanding, as the basis for the gender equality fight and the improvement of women’s position.

“We have to be solidary, women understand each other best”, a workshop participant noted.

At times when political participation is virtually a mission impossible for refugee and migrant women, NGO Atina has been trying to gain their voting rights through direct support activities that have been carried out.

With the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) empowerment workshops have been organized, counselling and direct long-term support has been provided to women and girls in an effort to enable them not only to acquire independence and fight for their rights, but also to change the world around them.

Project “Local support to the most vulnerable refugees”, aiming at improving the position of women and girls refugees, will be implemented by the end of December 2018 in Belgrade, Bujanovac, Vranje and Bogovadja.
