March 27, 2025

“This training is a game-changer! It’s vital for sharpening our skills to spot and protect trafficking victims right from the start. The hands-on tools and clear indicators we received will transform how we work every day and strengthen our teamwork across different sectors.” An impression from one of the participants at the training.

A training session on the identification and protection of victims of human trafficking within the healthcare system, including migrant victims of trafficking, was held in Vranje.

The training was intended for all professionals who, in the course of their work, come into contact with victims of human trafficking, as well as with migrants. It was organized as part of the project “Women on the Crossroads: Strengthening the Response to Modern Slavery, Smuggling, and Gender-Based Violence among Migrants in Serbia,” implemented by NGO Atina with the support of the British Embassy in Belgrade, and in cooperation with Center for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking.

At the training session held in Vranje on March 27, 2025, 23 professionals took part, including representatives from the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrants (1), non-governmental organizations (4), the National Employment Service (1), the Labor Inspectorate (1), and the Center for the Protection of Victims of Human Trafficking (2).

Participants had the opportunity to learn about the national indicators for the preliminary identification of human trafficking victims within the healthcare system, as well as the accompanying manual for using these indicators. They also took part in a practical exercise on the use of healthcare indicators. Additionally, the participants were introduced to the online application for preliminary identification of trafficking victims within the migrant population, including simulations and exercises.

The training was attended by 23 professionals from the Vranje Health Center, including a pediatrician, a gynecologist, nurses from various departments, graduate social workers, sociologists, a speech therapist, a special education teacher, specialists in special pedagogy, financial officers, as well as representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrants (KIRS) and the Local Anti-Trafficking Team in Vranje.
